Listen and Reflect
John 5:24
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”

Today’s message is titled ‘(ETERNAL LIFE John 3:16)” Be blessed as you read or listen.
Let us pray; Heavenly Father, Eternal Rock of Ages, the Ageless One, the Mighty God, who was, who is, and who is to come, we bow before You in awe. To You belong all glory, honor, and majesty. You are the King of kings and the Ruler of the universe. In You and through You all things were created, and for Your pleasure they exist.
Thank You, Father, for creating us in Your image and likeness, that we may know You and fellowship with You. Thank You for the gift of eternal life, so priceless, yet freely given through Christ Jesus. We do not take it for granted. Our souls rejoice in the assurance that You are with us now and forever. Death has lost its grip, and our lives are hidden with Christ in God. We live, empowered by the Holy Spirit, in the fullness of Your unending love. Lord, receive all the glory, all the honor, and all the majesty. As I share a glimpse of the mystery of this precious gift, may the eyes of our understanding be enlightened. Let hope be rekindled within us, and let our hearts learn to treasure the Zoe life You have given.
Take control, Father. Be glorified, now and forevermore. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Bible Reading:
1 John 5:11-12
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
John 6:47
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.”
John 17:3
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
Matthew 19:29
“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.”
1 Timothy 6:12
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
The above scriptures already preach the message, lets go a little further When you hear the words eternal life, what comes to your mind? Does it mean simply living forever after death? Is it a different kind of existence? Or perhaps a future promise reserved only for when we leave this world? These are questions every believer must pause to ask. Because if Jesus Himself defined eternal life in His prayer to the Father, then surely, it is not something we should take lightly or leave vague in our understanding.
In John 17, Jesus was nearing the cross. He was not speaking carelessly. He was revealing the very heart of His mission. Eternal life, according to Him, is not merely about endless days, but about knowing God, the only true God, and knowing Him whom He sent. Think of the encounter with the rich young ruler in Matthew 19. He came to Jesus asking, “What good thing must I do to inherit eternal life?” His question shows us something: people long for eternal life, but not everyone truly understands what it means. Jesus answered him by redirecting his focus, not to his wealth, not to good works, but to following Him. In other words, eternal life is not something earned, but something found in Christ Himself.
This is why the subject of eternal life is so crucial for us as believers. It shapes our identity, it defines our inheritance, and it determines how we live now in the present, not just in eternity to come. So the next time you say “I have eternal life,” do you know what you are truly declaring? If we as believers can grasp this reality—our place in God through Christ, the life we have been given, and the inheritance that comes with it—we will no longer live as though this passing world is our home. We will set our minds on things above, walking with the consciousness that eternal life has already begun in us. And then, you will understand: nothing in this temporary world is worth losing eternity.
So then what is eternal life? First we have to know Eternal life is a gift, not earned, it’s not a reward of living in a certain way or of our own works or deeds or good works, it is a gift from God, God loves us and give us His very nature because we are now part of Him through Christ His very own Children not slaves or just messengers, His children, Apostle Paul is teaching the Galatians 4:6–7 ‘‘And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’ Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.’’
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” It reminds us that eternal life is not earned, but received. It’s the gift of God, rooted in His grace, and only available in Christ.
Eternal life is not just unending life it means being restored to the fellowship with God that was lost in the garden of Eden. Eternal life is God’s Gift of life that never ends, given through Jesus Christ. Is knowing God having a relationship with God and our Savior Jesus Christ John 17:3. Eternal Life is God’s own life living inside us believers now and continuing forever where there is no pain nor sorrow. John 3:36. God’s presence, God’s life in us now and forever. Our life is now hidden in Christ, and that life is the gift of God.
Do you see now that many people are living, yet they do not truly have life? Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Yet so many move through each day like shadows—existing, but unaware of the true life God offers.
A life apart from Christ is empty, fleeting, and ultimately destined for destruction. “He who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36). This reality underscores our calling as believers: we are entrusted with life itself. Every time we share the gospel, we are not merely speaking words, we are proclaiming life. “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20).
Through Christ, people can receive a life that transforms, restores, and secures them for eternity. As Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). A life without Him is incomplete, like a flower destined to wither. But a life in Christ is hidden with Him, eternal, abundant, and victorious. “Your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then we also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:3-4).
So rejoice if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior—you have life. Not just any life, but a divine, eternal life. And now, empowered by the Holy Spirit, it is both your burden and your calling to take that life to others. Let them know: without Christ, there is no true life; in Him, there is abundant, eternal life.
Can One Lose Eternal Life After Receiving Christ?
The answer is no. Eternal life cannot be lost, but a person can willfully walk away from God, which leads to destruction. To reject the gospel and the finished work of Christ is like rejecting life itself. John 10:28–29 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
As long as we are in Christ, we are secure in Him. Eternal life in Christ is not fragile; it is sealed in Him. Once you truly belong to Christ, nothing external, no power of darkness, no man, no circumstance, can take you away from His hand.
Ephesians 1:13–14
“When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession to the praise of his glory.”
This means the Holy Spirit Himself seals the believer, guaranteeing eternal life.
Eternal life cannot be lost by accident, weakness, or struggle- because our salvation is rooted in Christ’s finished work, not in our performance.
The Bible also warns us not to deliberately reject Christ. If someone knowingly and willfully chooses unbelief, turning away from the truth after having known it, they forfeit the life they once received.
Hebrews 10:26–27
“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.” Hebrews 3:12 “See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.”
John 15:6
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.”
These passages do not mean that God is quick to cast us away, but they warn us against hardening our hearts and willfully turning away from Christ in unbelief.
Eternal life is the greatest expression of God’s love toward mankind. From the beginning, sin created a separation between humanity and God, leaving us under the power of death and without hope of restoring ourselves. But in His mercy and love, God did not leave us in that state-He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to conquer sin and death and to open the way back to Him. Eternal life, therefore, is not something we can earn by good works; it is purely the gift of God, flowing from His love and grace.
Through Christ, our sins are forgiven, and we are made righteous before God. Eternal life is not only a promise of the future, but a present reality that begins the moment we believe. It is the new life of God in us, transforming the way we think, live, and relate with others. It gives us the ability to walk in holiness, to reflect Christ, and to bear fruit that points others to Him. Eternal life means more than living forever, it means knowing God personally, experiencing His Spirit within us, and being secured in His love.
This gift also carries a future hope: that one day, we will be resurrected with Christ and live eternally in His presence. The pains, sorrows, and brokenness of this world will be no more, and we will enjoy everlasting fellowship with God in glory. Because eternal life is rooted in God’s faithfulness and not in our perfection, we have assurance that nothing can separate us from His love. This hope strengthens us in trials and keeps us focused on the eternal reward ahead.
So, whenever we think of eternal life, we must remember: it is God’s love revealed through Christ, it is the forgiveness of sins and the gift of righteousness, it is a new life we begin to live here on earth, and it is the unshakable hope of resurrection and everlasting joy in the presence of God. Eternal life is both our present reality and our eternal destiny in Christ.
Eternal life means:
Knowing God personally through Christ.
Living in His presence, guided by His Spirit.
Sharing in His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
Freedom from the power of sin and death (Romans 6:23).
How Can One Receive the Gift of Eternal Life?
Believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31).
Confess Him as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10).
And you Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, who seals us for eternal life.
This brings us to the most important part of this sermon. It is about giving your life to Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Without Christ, you may be alive, but you are not truly living, you are just existing. After a few years, life passes, and without Him, there is no true purpose or hope.
Jesus said, “I am the Life.” After the fall of Adam and Eve, sin corrupted the world, and humanity lost the glory of God and His nature. To truly discover who we are, to know our purpose and destiny, we must give our lives to Christ.
Mark 8:36–37
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
If we can secure our homes, our cars, and our earthly possessions—which are temporary—how much more should we secure our very souls?
What Happens When You Give Your Life to Christ?
The moment you surrender your life to Jesus, you receive several incredible gifts from God:
- The Forgiveness of Sin – Your past is washed clean by the blood of Christ. Old things pass away, and you are made new.
- The Gift of Righteousness – You receive the ability, through the Holy Spirit, to live like Christ.
- Eternal Life – Life that begins now and continues forever with God.
All of this is sealed by the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, who will guide, teach, and empower you in your journey. You will not have to walk this path alone. The Holy Spirit is with you every step of the way.
If you are reading or listening to this and have not yet made Jesus your Lord and Savior, this is your moment. Heaven is calling your soul:
“Come Home, Come Home. No matter how far you think you have gone, how lost, broken, or burdened you feel, come to Him.”
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
This rest cannot be found in the world, no matter how much wealth or comfort you acquire. His peace, His joy, His abundant life, can only be found in Him.
The Holy Spirit, our Guardian, Strengthener, Advocate, and Spirit of Truth, is here to guide, empower, and comfort you in this new journey with Christ. Call on His name and rely on His presence every step of the way.
If you are ready, pray this prayer sincerely:
“Lord Jesus, I come before You today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and ask You to forgive my sins. I believe You died for my sins and rose again on the third day for my justification. I receive You now as my personal Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart, wash me with Your precious blood, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and write my name in the Book of Life. Thank You, Lord, for the price You paid. I love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer sincerely, congratulations! Heaven is rejoicing over you.
